Saying Good-Bye...

I have not written in a long time...I think the last time was before my Mission Trip...I really need to do a post on it...it was amazing and I can't believe its been two months since I came home from Costa Rica...

Life since then has been a blur...I started a new FT teaching job at a private Catholic school and I finally feeling like I am getting in to a routine...finally...

This post is not a joyous one, and I apologize in advance....

After I got back from Costa Rica, our youngest cat, Bentley started getting sick..lethargic, throwing up etc...he had gotten sick a few times while I was gone, but cats get sick, and Wayne didn't think anything of it.

We/vet thought it was some type of gastritis...he was given a anti-nausea med and a steroid shot..he got better for a bit then it started all over again...We did food allergy testing and it came back he was allergic to 5 things..BAM, we had our answer...we thought...we changed his food and for a week or so he was better, and then, the sickness started again...on my bday we took him in after hours and he was given an ultrasound and it was normal...

The vet finally said, it is either major gastritis, that will be eventually be controlled with steroids, or we are looking at something more sinister...cancer...

Wayne gave him a steroid pill everyday, and followed a schedule...he got "better" but Bentley was still not "himself" and we knew it...he hid a lot and the steroids made him hungry all the time...some days he ate well, some he didn't...The vet said after 4-6 weeks of being on the pills they would either work and keep working, or they would stop working and we would have our answer. This past week (which was about 4 weeks) he started getting sick again...Our worst fears were coming true...

This past Friday, the 27th, our 10 year wedding anniversary was to be a joyous day...I only had a half work day, and Wayne was taking me out to dinner that night at a surprise restaurant.  I got off work, ate lunch with Wayne and we both ran errands, and we got home around the same time.  I was home 15 min and I discovered a huge pile of "water" throw up...I knew it was Bentley...He then got sick again...

We called the vet, and Wayne talked to him for a good bit, all the while, I am bawling my eyes out, because I know the inevitable has to happen.  Our options were put him in the hospital on IV/fluids and steroids and see how he does, or make the right decision and make him be at final peace...

At 530, Friday the 27th, our sweet Bentley went to Heaven...It was heart-wrenching, and yet so peaceful to see him drift off knowing he will no longer be suffering...Our sweet 9 year old baby kitty is no longer with us, but he will always be in our hearts....
